Well, I'm not going to TOTALLY take it off the table. I realize that the update issue is Samsung's fault, so I won't go with Samsung again. I like what WP is trying to accomplish with their live tiles and social integration, and as much as I would like to deny it, these things really DO march on the strength of their marketplaces to a large degree.

Like I said, I'm not due for an update until Feb, although I'm not sure if I'll lock myself into another 2 year contract at that point. It'll depend on what's on the market, and in what state. Who knows!

That's too bad. Not that I can defend anything about Windows Phone's performance in the market, but as a fellow user of one, I hate to hear when other users aren't happy with it, further whittling away the community.

I think my hope is either in a re-stimulated developer community with Nokia's participation in WP7, or the HTML5 world growing fast enough that PhoneGap becomes the saviour of the WP7 marketplace.

Some of the new sets do indeed suck. I was a big fan of the old big technics sets with gears, motors and such...but talk about expensive. The best "creative" set - the NXT 2.0 robotics kit costs $270.

For what it's worth you can also buy the old bricks they sell em by the pound....I kid you not. you should see the "village" my kids made with the old sets we have. They still have fun with them.

I'm a bit torn between the sides on this specific issue. On one hand, I don't think Google should break rank with the greater Internet and demand that people use "birth names" or whatever. This isn't a professional recruiting tool.

On the other hand, I'm past the point where I believe that people should be raising holy hell over every single perceived "infringement on their privacy". Real names are printed every year (2wice a year?) in the phonebook, which no one uses. It's also on the online directories. Credit cards, mortgage contracts, phone bills (ANY bill)...we'are ALL on record somewhere, so these kinds of battles seem like picking nits to me.

I'm trying to get to the bottom of this slowly building pseudonym vs real name issue. If Google requires real names, I fear they'll be limiting themselves. Think of Twitter people who don't use facebook because they want to use an pseudonym, but maybe they'd like something a bit less limiting than Twitter. Perfect G+ customer there, if they can keep using their pseudonym.

One warning about Blocking to anyone new to Twitter. Blocking is a convenience, but not secure. So if you block your boss and then tweet "My boss is an ass!" keep in mine your boss won't see that tweet in his feed, but if he goes to twitter.com/yourprofile while not logged in, he can see everything you said about him.

Basically, treat everything you say on Twitter as public info, or make your profile Private (but that makes it hard to cultivate your garden).

I was happy with the iPhone, because Apple put SOME stuff on there, but the only thing I didn't care about was the stock ticker. Now that I'm back on a "carrier phone", being at the mercy of their business decisions of "what's good for me" is really disgusting.

You neglected to mention the plethora of 'sexy girl' apps on the Android Market!

I'm fairly happy with my Droid, but I'm worried about my next upgrade (still over a year in the future) since Verizon is starting to backslide and doing things like replacing Google with Bing and making it difficult to switch back, and now I'm hearing that they're going to start replacing the Android Market with a Verizon VCast Market.

When it comes to search, I don't care that much about Google vs Bing, but along with the search they also apparently rip out Google Voice and Google Maps and its turn-by-turn directions, and the Google voice recognition stuff and all the Googley Goodness. That stinks.

I did update the device to the latest patch, since it asks for it whenever I plug it in to sync it. However, the device itself is now near pristine, since it was reset to factory once I switched to the Android. I can't say if the performance is better then it was when I was using it as a phone since it's not in the same state.

The WM7 model does sound interesting, although they, too, have limited hardware requirements from what I understand. They mandate that the device MUST have the same 3 button hardware config, but the INTERNALS can be whatever the mfr wants. The Android issue is that the features of the OS march on, but at some point they're too powerful for the older hardware to support. Same with iOS, but Google updates faster it seems.

And I do believe that MS will curate their app store to some degree.

While I am sure the phones are wonderful, I am even more curious if you have tried to install the new IOS 4.0.1 to your 3G. Co-worker mentions it is a lot better. Course how would you know, I don't remember Apple mentioning they were immediately going to release a fix.

Still with Win7 approach to many vendors and carriers, but locking in they way ppl will see things, gives us a nice 3rd model. Might make their app store a bit more like Apples, but for more ppl.

That's exactly what I wanted to get at: the memories. When you visit places that are "out of the ordinary", those memories tend to be more powerful then even memorable events that happen in more familiar surroundings.

This post brought back SO MANY MEMORIES! We used to go to Hampton Beach at least once a year; it was always something we looked forward to. I don't remember the beach being trashy, but I was little and maybe didn't notice (and, I suspect, it was about twenty years before you were going).
